I'm not buying it, but I'll try selling it anyway. BLOG POST 1: about me

I will not always be clever. No cryptic foreshadowing necessary, sometimes you will not find my ramblings interesting.
Now that that's out of the way, lets start this blog off the right way: a mission statement. I
n hopes of satisfying my need to share my opinions, interests, and thoughts, as well as the requirements of this 100W class, I will flap my metaphorical gums here and provide some food for thought ..
Noun1.food for thought - anything that provides mental stimulus for thinking
cognitive content, mental object, content - the sum or range of what has been perceived, discovered, or learned
pabulum - insipid intellectual nourishment

And now
, a little about me. I am currently in my third year at San Jose State University and pursuing a major in Journalism. Specifically within the field of journalism I have my eye on a career within magazine journalism, fashion/entertainment magazines in particular. When I think of what I hope to be doing in the future with my life, I see myself working on a magazine, writing articles and columns, but also being involved with layout and design aspects of the magazine. I have always been very attracted to imagery and the ways you can organize and display images. Planning and coordinating entertainment/industry events might be fun too :). My birth certificate says that I am 20 years old, but mentally I've never really identified with this age. This could work to my advantage, or against it, who knows. Some of my favorite authors and poets include Chuck Palahniuk, Charles Bukowski, Oscar Wilde, Jimi Hendrix, Bobby Dylan, and a few others. I want to be like a sponge; to soak up all the knowledge and information available to me and then just sit and think about it. I think its fair to say that I have a fairly social personality but I also spend a lot of time in introspection. I try not to sweat the small things and think big picture, and this has definitly saved me (and will probably continue to save me) some sanity. The gym, retail therapy, and Smuckers Uncrustables in grape jelly all put a smile on my face, and I am quite content with that.
I'd like to think I've got some chutzpah.

  1. A little chutzpah and a strong writing voice -- a lovely combination.

I look forward to reading your work this semester. Welcome to the class.
